Occupied
By Hugh Carter Vinson and Robert E. Farnell

Gunter Falston called the war council to order. He tapped the butt of his 9 mm on the makeshift table -- two boards bridging the gap between wooden barrels. outside the crude log cabin sentries connected via walkie-talkies patrolled the winding lane of red clay that led up from the county road. Flank and rear guards were also in position. Secreted in Georgia's Blue Ridge Mountains near the Tennessee border, the hunter's cabin was sufficiently isolated so as not draw attention to the two dozen pickups, four by fours, and jeeps parked in the yard. Increase government surveillance had made change of the meeting site necessary.

"Gentlemen, the plans have changed. Our man in Washington was politicized. A flaming liberal's about to ascend to the presidency."

"What change, Colonel?" A portly militiaman in camouflaged fatigues asked.

"We're gonna assassinate President Kendall Raymond," Falston stated with a grin.

"What the hell good's that gonna do?" another Bubba quizzed in his thick Georgia accent muffled by the chaw of tobacco stuffed in his cheek. "That's just gonna get that niggrah loving Twigg in the White House sooner."

"Exactly." Falston stepped in front of his make do podium." What happens when a president's assassinated?"

"Hot damn! I got it, Colonel," a third answered with the enthusiasm of a grader schooler wanting to impress his teacher. "They give the bastard the royal send-off."

"On target, soldier. Remember Kennedy's funeral?" Falston dug his thumbs into his web belt. "Everybody who's anything in politics, justices of the Supreme Court, members of Congress, the Cabinet, foreign dignitaries assemble under one roof Independence Cathedral."

"Then we can nuke the whole damn bunch with one hit. Take over the country. Send those blue-capped SOB's back where they came from. Right, Colonel?" Newt smiled and twisted the ends of his mustache.

"Okay men, form a circle," Falston ordered. "Let’s get down to business."

Authors HUGH CARTER VINSON & ROBERT E. FARNELL

Hugh Carter Vinson and co-author Robert E. Farnell successfully draw on their many combined years of public service as both defense counsels and prosecutors in Maryland to create a believable and thoroughly frightening first novel, OCCUPIED.

OCCUPIED

by HUGH C. VINSON & ROBERT E. FARNELL
Shocked, the crowds stand silently watching the United Nations' tanks roll noisily through their tree-lined city followed by uniformed soldiers in armored cars and jeeps. They can't believe this is truly happening to them .... in their country ..... Serbia? Croatia? Afghanistan? Nope. The United States of America.
Vinson and Farnell have written an eerie and highly plausible first novel. I'll give a brief synopsis of it and you stop me when it becomes 'fiction'.
America is an internal mess. A country in total chaos. The people in the White Houses can no longer be trusted. Hate crimes are severely on the rise. Boot-stompin', bible-thumpin', beer-bellied White Aryan hooligans with unattractive skin illustrations are running rampant from sea to shining sea. Seemingly unstoppable, they garner enough support to take over the country. That's when they get really serious about their ethnic cleansing program. Ultimately, the United Nations is forced to move in to provide some semblance of peace.
OCCUPIED is strongly written with forceful and gutsy dialogue throughout. Truthfully, the only problem I had while reading it was in keeping that line from blurring between 'fiction' and 'non-fiction'. OCCUPIED makes you fully realize just how close we are in this country to the edge. This book is the real thing.
