Press Kits are folders given out to reporters, or sent to newspapers, radio and TV stations when you are seeking an interview. Book stores may ask for one as well. Fancy slick colorful folders are nice, but any neat clean pocket folders will do. Clip your letter requesting the interview to the front of the press kit. Label the front of the press kit as well, with your Name, address, phone, and contact information. Most press kits contain the following:
A press release about your most recent work.
1 8x10 photo of you suitable for reproduction.
A Bio sheet, with both a short 2 or 3 line biographical note, and a longer 2 or 3 paragraph biography, such as would appear in the back of your book.
A Writing Resume, that is formatted like any other job-seeking resume, 1 page only, but with the emphasis on writing. Put RECENT PUBLICATIONS: at the top; then EXPERIENCE, listing any writing-related jobs you have held; Education: any degrees, (leave this out for anything less than a MFA), and finally, list AWARDS: if any; and MEMBERSHIPS: in writing associations, Author's Guild, National Writers' Union, etc., with writing references (known names if possible) if you have them. Ebooks or Cambridge Books authors may always list their publisher as a reference.
A list of Interview questions with your answers in quotes. This will give the interviewer some idea of what to ask if they give you the interview, and what you would answer. This does not mean they will stick to the given questions, but they will have some idea about you and a good reporter could create a profile on you using the questions and quotes and the bio sheet.
