Beware of Fraud!

    It has come to our attention that someone has used a scanner and a genuine check sent to someone else in the past to "recreate" checks from an old account that we closed months ago. Whoever is doing this is asking people, via an e-mail scam, to cash the checks for them, saying they are out of the country and offering to share the money. Checks are then mailed to the people who fall for the scam. The checks bear the victims' own names, are mailedto their home addresses, and are purported to come from Write Words, Inc. They do not come from us, but from someone perpetrating a fraud. They were mailed (so far) from a state in the southwest.
   These checks are fraudulent and worthless!
      Sending a fraudulent check through the mail is a Federal Offense. Cashing fraudulent checks, even if they do have your name on them, at any Federal Reserve Bank is another.

   We regret any inconvenience this may have caused to honest people who have fallen for a "help me" scam. We certainly regret any inconvenience to those with whom we regularly do an honest business and whomwe, naturally, pay by check.
   We would be grateful if anyone with information about any of these events would share it with us and with Federal authorities, under whose jurisdiction this crime falls.
