Two Years Before the Mast
by Charles Henry Dana

This book represents the first lengthy account of a sea voyage ever published by a sailor, and is thus a must have for all interested in maritime history.
Two Years at the Mast was written and is narrated by Charles Henry Dana. The Captain of Dana's ship believed it was bad for discipline to have any man idle at any time of day save for a brief period on Sunday. As a result the crew was kept constantly at work, all day, every day.
This book can be appreciated on two different levels. The first is for the fascinating historical insights it gives. It is the most complete and accurate account of the nineteenth century shipping industry ever written. As it is a first-hand narrative the events are presented far more vividly than even the best of historical writing can hope to match. It is a must-have for readers interested in history and for those who simply enjoy a good yarn.

Sense and Sensability
A Classic Regency Romance
by Jane Austen

Had this book been written today, the title might have been Sense and Sensuality, but Regency authors were much more circumspect. The title refers to the two eldest Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne, one of whom (Elinor) embraces practicality and restraint while the other (Marianne) gives her whole heart to every endeavor.
When the Dashwoods---are sent, almost impoverished, to a small cottage in Devonshire after the death of their father and the machinations of their brother's wife, they accept their new circumstances with as much cheer as they can muster even though their brother and his wife have taken over the family estate and fortune. Their characters, albeit wildly different in their approaches to life, are impeccably honest and intelligent - and their suitors take notice.
In an interestingly twist, the end of this novel brings into question which sister represents which part of the title.

Adam's Point
by Elena Dorothy Bowman

The strange spirits who, without rhyme or reason, or so much as a 'by your leave', had suddenly inhabited The House On The Bluff and caused a multitude of problems.
It was not only that people were disappearing, which heightened their trepidation, but the menacing, almost threatening manifestations it showered on the human residents, while relegating the "harmless" spiritual entities into their own inescapable prison. A prison, which was so deep within the recesses of the house, they apparently couldn't or didn't dare attempt to escape or leave.

Gatekeeper's Realm
Book Two of the Legacy Series
by Elena Dorothy Bowman

This was the day Abigail was waiting for — the arrival of the schooner Abigail with her first guests at the grand opening of her Inn on Adam’s Point. It had stood uninhabited for centuries, yet to this day, its beauty and elegance can only be described as ageless and unspoiled. Her husband, Ethan, with his friend, Tony, the town’s sheriff, had picked up the guests at the pier at Caleb Cove and were bringing them to the Inn by sea.
A strange odyssey befell every guest during their stay at the Inn.  Each day brought new challenges, new mysteries and new apprehension. And the nights, well, the nights were especially baffling. What transpired during their sleep not only caught them off guard, but shook the very depths of their souls wondering if they would ever see the light of day again. They had climbed into their beds to rest, only to discover upon awakening their sleep was not what they expected. Nor was it something they wanted to talk about — that is, not all of them. All they knew was their recent strange journeys and experiences, brought them to the conclusion: It is much safer off shore aboard the schooner "Abigail" during a violent storm, than to be on dry land on a sunny day, when "The House" wavers into its unknown and unstable dimensions
